Owner Richard Persing has always enjoyed working with mechanical things. When he was growing up, it upset him when his mom would come home distressed after a visit to the local auto repair shop, where the staff would try to hard sell or just lie about problems with her car. That’s why, after spending his youth repairing friends’ and family’s cars, his enthusiasm for the auto repair industry grew into a profession.

A Better Auto Repair, previously known as Dave’s Auto Service and Repair, is a family-owned and operated business that has been a staple in the Oceanside community for over 35 years, ever since former owner Dave Moreno first opened its doors. The shop began as Dave’s Radiator Repairs, but as the auto industry changed, it evolved into a full-service auto repair center. Rich and Dave worked together for over five years before Dave passed the business on to Rich. Though under new management, the same amazing auto team is still here to serve Oceanside, CA!

We do our very best to be an eco-friendly facility and are part of the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). All of our technicians are ASE Certified, and complete update classes regularly to ensure that their automotive knowledge current. They use only state-of-the-art computer diagnostic equipment when working on cars. While our factory-trained technicians work on all domestic and import vehicles, we also have a Toyota and Honda specialist on site.

Our friendly and knowledgeable staff understands that bringing your vehicle in for service, especially for the first time, can be stressful. We are committed to doing everything we can to make your time with us relaxing and comfortable. We won’t pressure you to make any hard sales, and we’ll explain everything you need to know before we start working on your car.
